I was visiting Seattle from San Francisco on a business trip and stayed an extra night for a reunion dinner with my three adult sisters; we hadn't gotten together in years and were really looking forward to it. A Seattle friend recommended Il Terrazzo Carmine as having `gracious service, no rush, perfect for a leisurely dinner.` It was anything but. In fact, I've never been treated as rudely in a restaurant -- no exaggeration. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Wednesday night. The maitre d' started trying to rush us out the door at 8:00, including repeated attempts to remove our desserts before we had finished, setting up additional empty chairs right next to our table to make it obvious that he wanted to seat a larger party there, and standing close by, gesticulating at us, shaking his head and rolling his eyes at the other staff members. When we very politely explained the circumstances and that we did not enjoy being rushed out the door, he launched into a long and animated tirade about how he had to seat a party of 12 in the same area, we couldn't expect to stay at our table for 3 hours (we had been there for 2 hours at that point), and `how's he gonna make any money` if we lingered while a larger party was waiting. It was awful and humiliating, and cast a pall on the reunion dinner and my impression of the city. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to eat at this restaurant.
